Important Directions - Read before installing Office 2010

1. If you are installing Office 2010 beta for the first time, the default settings will upgrade your existing copy of Microsoft Office. You can however customize this setting and install Office 2010 alongside an older version of Office.

2. If you already have Office 2010 Technical Preview on your computer, make sure you completely uninstall this edition before attempting to installing Office 14 beta. In case you still have trouble installing Office, use the cleanup utility [microsoft.com] to remove all traces of the previous version of Office from your system.

3. If you are trying to install MS Office 2010 64bit alongside MS Office 2007 32bit, it will ask you to uninstall the older version before proceeding. There has not be a work-around found for this yet.

4. If you have Microsoft Word Viewer 2003, it is a 32 bit piece of software and will not install alongside with MS Office 2010 64bit. It will ask you to uninstall it before proceeding.

Legends is one of the most musically accomplished super groups of all time. With Eric Clapton on guitar, Joe Sample of The Crusaders on keyboards, virtuoso saxophone player David Sanborn and super session players Steve Gadd on drums and Marcus Miller on bass, both of whom have done time in Clapton’s band, the group’s pedigree is extraordinary. Marcus Miller put the Legends band together for a European tour in 1997. They never made an album and this concert at Montreux is the only record of their stunning collaboration. The music is an intoxicating blend of jazz, blues and rock, which gives each of the players a chance to shine but also emphasizes the wonderful chemistry they create as a group.

LEGENDS is a unique concert from the Montreux Festival, bringing together the formidable talents of five musical superstars: ERIC CLAPTON (guitar & vocals), STEVE GADD (drums), MARCUS MILLER (bass), JOE SAMPLE (piano) and DAVID SANBORN (saxophone). All acclaimed in their own fields, they work even better as a group.

The music is an intoxicating blend of jazz and blues on classic tracks such as Full House, Shreveport Stomp, Groovin’ and a wonderful acoustic version of Clapton’s LAYLA that’s guaranteed to give you goosebumps.

1. Start Nero General-CleanTool(included with keymaker)
2. Restart computer

How to install

1. Run the install demo exe and install with the default demo serial number of “8M01-209M-AH6P-5UW0-WHAW-C53X-473X-79MH” when it pops up.
2. Deselect all apps and install nero burning rom only, rest is junk.
3. Once install is complete, exit installer. Don’t run nero yet-make sure it’s not running in tray/background.
4. Run the keymaker and ignore malware notices, it’s clean.
5. Click License manager and select Remove all serials, close the License manager in the keygen
6. Click Reset white list and then click Re-Detect Nero in the keygen
7. Choose Nero9 and Retail single and generate a serial, if you installed other part of nero9 apps, you’ll have to repeat steps 5 and 6 for each one.
8. Once the key is on screen, click add to white list. Exit keymaker.
9. Search for a file named NeroPatentActivation.exe, i’m running windows7 and it was located in \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nero\AdvrCntr4
once the file is located, rename it to NeroPatentActivation.old, click yes if Windows warns you about changing the extension of the file.
10. You’re done and enjoy Nero 9.4.26.0

A temple in Nepal will host what is thought to be the world's biggest ritual slaughter in which hundreds of thousands of buffaloes, goats and birds will be sacrificed to the Hindu goddess of power, Gadhimai.

In a letter seen by AFP Friday, Bardot urged the president to outlaw the sacrifice of animals for religious purposes ahead of the festival, calling the practice "violent, cruel and inhumane."

"I personally find it hard to imagine that your heart can withstand such cruelty, knowing that you, being the head of the country, are ultimately responsible," said Bardot, 75, in her letter to President Ram Baran Yadav.

"I have dedicated my life to protect animals and the best gift I could receive for this life-long struggle would be the announcement of the stopping of ritual sacrifice of animals."

Nobody at the president's office could be reached for comment on the letter, but the government has already said it will not bow to activists' demands to stop the Gadhimai festival, held every five years in southern Nepal.

Authorities here say the mass sacrifice, which attracts Hindu devotees from across Nepal and from neighbouring India, is a centuries-old religious tradition that should be allowed to continue.

Bardot shot to international fame in 1956 with her controversial role as a demon-driven temptress in the movie "And God Created Woman," becoming an icon of the burgeoning sexual liberation era.

But stardom proved too much to handle and she abandoned her movie career in 1973, aged just 39, retiring to the French Riviera resort of Saint Tropez.

Since then she has swapped the role of sex symbol for that of campaigner, selling off everything she owned to fund her animal rights foundation.

This is one that hopefully was worth waiting for. I thought I would share this instead of keeping it for myself, hope you enjoy. Please understand this is the first version of the file and you may or may not like the channel file, criticism is accepted. It is highly recommended that you save you current channel list in the event you prefer to go back to it for what ever reason/s.

I think you will find it is simplified and includes an intuitive favorites list with everything in it's rightful place. It is convenient and takes the guess work out of trying to figure out where certain channels are, making it fresh and easy to use, no to mention space being absorbed by unwatched channels. Once you explore the channel selection and fashion in which this was organized, I think you will find it to be a whole new experience or not, lol.

Be Aware: You should first check settings when you load the file and adjust them to match your existing settings, audio, video, and whatever else you may or may not have set different. I am posting a thread in the NFHD section and I would ask you to share your thoughts with others and myself about your experience with this file and how you would rate it. What would you like to see changed or, are you happy with it compared to the way the channels were originally. I have tried my best and set this up according to the majority preference.

Please note: There are no shopping channels, spiritual channels, most of the channels that are in HD, you will not find in SD except the ones that aren't very stable yet including the newer ones on 129 that seam to freeze from time to time. There are barely any channels that are down on the list, except the ones that usually work and may be down momentarily. If you want certain internationals that are up on 61.5 or, 118 then load the file and rescan just that sat. From there, you can delete the channels on any of these sats you don't care for or any of the other sats on this file that you may not have set up at the time.

Please explore this file and share in the NFHd section. Be sure to save this file so you can adjust things to your liking and add things that may not be available on this list of channels. If any of the channels I mentioned are ones you like to watch then, this file may not be for you.

Benson's hip injury kept him out of a second straight practice and the rumor is that he just won't be ready to bear a full load on Sunday. So the recent signing of Larry Johnson may come in handy pretty quickly. There is talk that Johnson has gotten a lot of repetitions in practice and will be getting the ball a fair amount this weekend if all goes as planned but the conventional wisdom has Johnson sitting well behind Bernard Scott on the depth chart.

Johnson has only had two days of practice with the team though he's apparently said that he's feeling pretty comfortable with quarterback Carson Palmer.

She was 42.

Stefanie Spielman died at the family’s home in Upper Arlington, surrounded by her family, said WBNS radio in Columbus, where Chris Spielman co-hosts a show.

“Stefanie has gone home to be with the Lord,” Chris Spielman said in a statement released by the station. “For that, we celebrate, but with broken hearts. I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 years. Together, with your help, hopefully we made a difference in this fight.”

Stefanie Spielman was 30 years old and three months pregnant in 1998 when she detected a lump in her breast. She later miscarried and discovered she had cancer. She survived four bouts with cancer before a fifth recurrence in March.

Chris Spielman was playing linebacker with the Buffalo Bills when he decided to give up football for a year to stay home with his wife and children. When his wife lost her hair because of chemotherapy treatments, he shaved his head.

“People say ‘It’s a great thing that you’re doing,”’ Chris Spielman said at the time. “I always say it would be a terrible thing if I didn’t.”

The Spielmans became advocates for breast-cancer detection and research, winning several awards for their dedication to the cause. They raised more than $6 million for breast cancer research at Ohio State, where she also had attended school, through the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

She helped form a support group for young women with breast cancer, hosted an annual event that honored cancer survivors and created a fund to help breast cancer patients and their families who struggled financially. She was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2002 for her work.

“We have lost a leader in the fight against cancer,” seven-time Tour de France winner and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong said. “Stefanie was a living example of courage and strength to everyone around her.”

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel called Stefanie Spielman an inspiration.

“Stefanie has inspired the entire Buckeye nation and Columbus community with her courage and strength,” Tressel said in a statement. “We will miss her and will always remember the lessons we learned from her. She will always be a special Buckeye.”

Two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, the president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association, said Stefanie Spielman was a compassionate person who “took her personal struggle and used it as a platform to help other women battling breast cancer.” He said the Ohio State community was “tremendously saddened” by her death.

Chris Spielman played 10 seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills before retiring after a violent hit that left him momentarily paralyzed when he was with the Cleveland Browns.

Stefanie Spielman is survived by her husband and their four children, Madison, Noah, Macy and Audrey.

Anyone rooting for the Detroit Lions who saw the forlorn-looking woman delivering the message surely could relate.

The Lions (1-8) have won only once since becoming the first NFL team to have an 0-16 season. If they get upset by Cleveland (1-8) Sunday at home, they will be plunge to another league mark of futility.

The Browns have endured a lot of bad football since returning to Cleveland in 1999, winning just .325 percent of their games.

But it has been worse in Detroit, where the Lions have won an NFL-low 29 percent since ’99.

Cleveland laments that its football team hasn’t won a title since 1964. The Lions, though, have a championship drought that dates to 1957 and they’ve only won one playoff game since.

Both teams are so bad now that Sunday’s matchup at Ford Field provides a rare opportunity for one of them to enjoy a victory.

The Lions found out earlier this month they have no business expecting to win against any team. Detroit fell to the St. Louis Rams, who lost their first seven games this year and 17 straight in a Lions-like streak.

“We can’t afford to overlook anybody,” Detroit’s Jon Jansen(notes) said. “To think Cleveland is going to come in here and lay down is inaccurate. We need to approach them as if they’re the New England Patriots.”

Cleveland longs for the years when the Patriots’ current coach, Bill Belichick, was its coach. At least that team was average at worse, and at best an 11-win club in 1994 that beat New England in the playoffs.

Back in those days, current coach Eric Mangini was a ball boy and a PR intern, and Jim Schwartz was getting his start in the NFL.

Schwartz started off with an unpaid gig for Belichick, picking up people at the airport as part of his duties, and moved up to land a job with the player personnel department.

“A lot of us were in the same boat,” Schwartz said. “Tom Dimitroff was there, the GM for the Falcons (now), and we all thought we were low, but Tom was on the grounds crew. He was cutting grass and pulling tarps and covered in paint.

“There were a lot of young guys who weren’t married and didn’t have any responsibilities other than learning football and learning from a really good staff, learning from guys like Bill Belichick, Nick Saban and Kirk Ferentz.”

Mangini got to know Schwartz when he was a scouting intern, and they both moved on to work for the Baltimore Ravens.

“We were all on the same pay grade, same status in life so we would hang out at that point,” Mangini recalled.

Mangini said they had a “pretty low” pay grade.

“My mom always had a tough time with that because I had gone to school, had a bunch of student loans, and I took the job as a ball boy,” Mangini said. “She thought I’d lost my mind, but I just wanted to get in the door.”

Now, both coaches are paid well and are desperate for a second win of the season.

The Lions have lost six straight games since beating Washington and snapping their 19-game skid. If Detroit loses to the Browns, it will be the first team in NFL history to have a 2-32 stretch, according to STATS LLC.

Cleveland has dropped four straight games since squeaking by Buffalo 6-3. And the Browns had a short week to prepare after losing 16-0 to Baltimore on Monday Night Football.

Schwartz was asked if he watched that game with a drink.

“I can’t remember if I had an adult beverage - I’m thinking about starting,” Schwartz joked. “I’m going to start smoking, too.”

Seriously, though, Schwartz has seemed to do all he could this year to help Detroit become a winner.

Matt Millen is gone, but the former general manager turned a lackluster franchise into a laughingstock and the damage couldn’t be fixed by any coach in one season.

As unwatchable as Sunday’s matchup appears to be, Mangini is confident the loyal following both franchises have will tune in - not counting those in the blacked-out markets near the Motor City.

“Both teams have fans that are committed to their teams,” Mangini said. “Both teams have a group of players and coaches that are committed to their fans and they’re working extremely hard to improve, and that’s a process.

“There are short-term gains and there are long-term gains, but the goal is to continue to improve. Jim will keep making that team better and better and that’s my goal here as well.”

(AP)—Former NBA star Jayson Williams is expected to plead guilty Friday in the fatal 2002 shooting of a hired driver, weeks before he faced a second trial for reckless manslaughter.

A person with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press that Williams will plead guilty to aggravated assault. The person wasn’t authorized to talk about the case and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Several other people who also spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to talk about the case confirmed a plea deal had been reached.

Williams was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter in 2004 but convicted of covering up the shooting at his central New Jersey mansion.

He was facing retrial on a reckless manslaughter charge, which carries a 10-year maximum sentence. An aggravated assault charge linked to a crime involving a gun carries a minimum 18-month sentence.

A guilty plea in the court in Somerville Friday would bring a close to a lengthy legal battle that produced a riveting televised trial in 2004, reached the state Supreme Court and exposed prosecutors to allegations of racial bias and misconduct.

It all started the night of Feb. 13, 2002, when Williams brought a group of friends back to his mansion after attending a Harlem Globetrotters basketball game.

Witnesses testified that Williams, who had been drinking, was showing off a shotgun in his bedroom when he snapped it shut and it fired, hitting driver Costas “Gus” Christofi in the chest.

They also said Williams put the gun in the dead man’s hands and told them to lie about what happened. He was eventually convicted on four counts of covering up the shooting.

The 2004 trial jury acquitted Williams of aggravated manslaughter but deadlocked on reckless manslaughter. He was scheduled to be retried on that charge in January.

The first trial verdict spawned years of legal sparring that came to a head this fall when current and former prosecutors were forced to testify about a former employee’s use of a racial slur to describe Williams.

The slur was before the trial but was not divulged to defense attorneys for more than three years, leading to defense claims that racism had tainted the investigation. But state Superior Court Judge Edward M. Coleman denied Williams’ lawyers request to throw the case out because of prosecutorial misconduct and racial bias.

The 41-year-old Williams played nine seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets before a leg injury forced him to retire in 2000. He attempted a short-lived comeback in the minor league Continental Basketball Association in 2005.

In 2003, Williams paid Christofi’s family $2.75 million to settle a wrongful-death lawsuit.

Williams has suffered several recent personal setbacks.

His wife filed for divorce earlier this year, and he was Tasered by police in a New York hotel after a female friend said he was acting suicidal. He was charged with assault in May after allegedly punching a man in the face outside a North Carolina bar, but charges were dropped. Last week, Williams’ father, E.J., with whom he owned a construction business, died in South Carolina.

Even if you don't have a favored fighter in the browser wars, you have to admit Microsoft's Internet Explorer has been looking mighty unfit over the last few years. Younger and fitter contenders like Mozilla's Firefox and Google's Chrome have arguably overtaken the old stalwart, and now Microsoft is making some much-needed noise about fighting back. The software giant has been giving developers and curious journalists a very early peek into its IE 9 progress at PDC, with its stated ambitions including faster Javascript (see table above), HTML5 support, and hardware acceleration for web content. By harnessing DirectX and your graphics processor, the new browser will offer improvements in text readability and video performance, as well as taking some of the load off the CPU. Development has only just got under way, mind you, so there's still plenty of time to screw it all up. The recent spate of Xbox Live bannings - in which as many as one million users were ejected from the service - have attracted the interests of a nationwide law firm by the name of AbingtonIP.

Abington are looking to get a class action lawsuit together, believing Microsoft's actions to be both heavy-handed and suspiciously convenient giving the proximity of the bannings to the release of Modern Warfare 2.

"Microsoft has chosen to use one of the most indiscriminate 'weapons' in its arsenal in an effort to combat piracy &mdash; as a result, use of this 'weapon' has resulted in a great deal of collateral damage &mdash; many people were affected who had nothing to do with piracy", reads a statement on the firm's website.

As for the conspiracy theory side of the story, Abington reckon that the mass bannings were just an excuse for Micsrosoft, with the release of the year's biggest online title on the horizon, to rack up a few extra Xbox Live subscriptions from those eager to get back onto the service.

Sounds like complete rubbish to me, but then, this is a law firm we're talking about.

It's a noble cause! Pity their latest "ad" - a flash game involving woman-slapping - lacks the same nobility.

We can see where they're coming from; something akin to "No Russian" for the domestic violence scene. Make you do something horrible to better confront the horror. But the execution? It's a flash game. Where you do nothing but smack a woman around. Comes across a little tasteless.

As such, it's hard to recommend "Hit the Bitch" over the genre's existing powerhouse.

I've been testing for years though never with IKS. I'm wondering which brand and reciever would be best with wireless net, pvr capabilities and best support. From the looks of the specs, the conaxsat nano 2 or the kbox is the way to go, though NFusion seems the most popular. But overall which recievers would you suggest as having experience with the IKS setups.

For Hendrick, a 1-2-3 finish might make history

CORAL GABLES, Florida (AP)—If either Jimmie Johnson or Mark Martin finishes the Ford 400 on Sunday with the NASCAR championship, Hendrick Motorsports— which owns both cars—will have plenty to celebrate.

The title, whomever delivers it, will be team owner Rick Hendrick’s ninth in NASCAR, tying him with Petty Enterprises for the most. And it will be his record-setting 12th overall, joining three truck titles.

But there’s a piece of history still out there for Hendrick to chase.

Johnson, Martin and Jeff Gordon, all of whom race under the Hendrick flag, enter the season finale 1-2-3 in the standings. If they finish in those spots, Hendrick Motorsports would become the first team in NASCAR history to truly pull off that feat.


“I hate to be greedy when you think about really wanting to be 1-2-3, but we’re sitting there right now with one race to go,” Hendrick said on Thursday. “That would be so good for the organization. If it happens, it’ll be just icing on the cake. We’ve all thought about it. We’ve all talked about it. That’s our goal.”

Has it happened before?

Depends on perspective, really.

Buck Baker, Herb Thomas and Speedy Thompson finished in the top three spots in the 1956 standings after a 56-race schedule. Baker and Thompson both raced for Carl Kiekhaefer, as did Thomas for much of that season. But NASCAR records show Thomas started that season listed as his car’s owner-driver, plus also spent some time that year with Smokey Yunick as his team owner.

So technically, if Hendrick pulls this off on Sunday, he would stand alone.

“I’m actually living a dream,” Hendrick said. “I grew up and all I knew was racing and cars and working on cars. You didn’t get paid to do it. You did it because you loved it and you take whatever you made to do it. So to be able to look back and see what we’ve been able to accomplish, I’ve just been really fortunate being around a lot of great people.”

His team is often likened as the Yankees of NASCAR, with good reason.

The results, especially of late, show that whatever is going on in the Hendrick garage tops what everyone else is doing.

At 50, Martin is having what he calls the happiest season of his life. Gordon will likely finish fourth or better in the final standings for the 10th time. And Johnson is on the brink of history, needing only a 25th-place finish to clinch his fourth consecutive title, breaking the record he shares with Cale Yarborough.

Johnson often tells the story how Hendrick once sat across the table from a team of Lowe’s hardware executives, convincing those potential and eventual sponsors how the driver really would be good enough to win a race someday. Johnson never forgot the faith Hendrick showed that day, and has paid it back many times.

“Somehow, some way, what he possesses in connecting with people, looking for the right skills, the desire, the drive that an individual may have to perform well and do well, there’s something that he can see and recognize,” Johnson said. “I think it speaks volumes to the company and the success of the company. He can pick something up, pick something out … piece everything together.”

The respect level the drivers have is clear. Even Martin, an elder statesman in NASCAR, calls the owner “Mr. Hendrick.”

Said Hendrick: “I want to go on the record, I’m only 10 years older than he is. I want it to be Rick.”

His life only seems the stuff of Hollywood now.

Hendrick’s cap will be turned backward in Victory Lane on Sunday, a tribute to his son Ricky, one of 10 people killed when a Hendrick plane crashed in 2004. Rick Hendrick always tried to get his kid to wear his cap the right way, and his son rarely would listen to Dad on that point.

There’s been so much other drama along the way, too. A rare form of leukemia, which he beat. A guilty plea to federal mail fraud, which was eventually pardoned by President Bill Clinton. Financial challenges, especially when he was beginning to build his empire.

Now here he stands, about to pull into a tie with Petty Enterprises for the most titles in the stock car series.

Richard Petty is still The King, and Johnson might be on the verge of etching his name on a blank page of NASCAR history, but Sunday will be as much a tribute to Hendrick as anyone else on Victory Lane. His 25th anniversary season in NASCAR will be his best, maybe the best by any team ever.

NASCAR's Chase for the Cup format was supposed to make the fight for the series title more dramatic. But with Jimmie Johnson on the verge of an unprecedented fourth Cup title in a row, has the Chase run its course?

Since NASCAR created the Chase in 2004 as a playoff system to make late-season races meaningful and to hang on to television viewers in the fall, when the NFL reigns supreme, the system has been a lightning rod for criticism.

And with Jimmie Johnson poised to run away with the championship -- his unprecedented fourth in a row -- the criticism appeared to be justified.

But sometimes, all fate needs is a little nudge.

With just the slightest bump in the third lap of the Dickies 400 on Nov. 8 at Texas Motor Speedway, Johnson's quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Sprint Cup title went from a coronation to no sure thing.

A traffic jam early in the race put Johnson into the wall and cut his seemingly insurmountable lead over Martin from 184 points to 73.

And although Johnson redeemed himself with a victory last Sunday at Phoenix, stretching his lead to 108 points, another catastrophic start at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday could undo an entire season of dominance.

``I can't put my guard down,'' Johnson said. ``Anything and everything can go wrong.''

Johnson's misfortune quieted -- at least for the time being -- resurgent questions of whether the Chase for the Cup format needed more revamping.

Among drivers and league executives, there is an agreement that, no matter how the Chase was structured, Johnson would be in the driver's seat for the series title.

Johnson's 2009 statistics tell the story: seven victories, 15 top-fives, 23 top-10s and an average finishing position of 12th place. He has been dominant and consistent.

In short, he is the type of champion NASCAR had in mind when it went to the Chase format five years ago.

``They've won an incredible amount during this Chase,'' said Kurt Busch, who won two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway. ``A couple years ago, we thought the Chase format needed adjusting, so we gave more points to race wins. Now he's so far ahead, we're thinking we have to adjust it again.

``We can't keep doing that. They're that good.''

In 2004, the series was known as the Nextel Cup, and Matt Kenseth was a beleaguered defending champion.

The year before, Kenseth won the points championship -- which was then decided by an entire season's worth of races -- despite winning just one race. By comparison, Ryan Newman finished sixth despite winning eight races and earning 11 poles.

The ensuing firestorm helped bring about the Chase, which is a 10-race playoff system at the end of the season. In short, the points reset after race 26, and the top dozen drivers are the only ones eligible for the championship.

The points system underwent slight changes in 2007, when more weight was given to race champions, throughout the season and during the Chase. This change has had only a slight affect on Johnson's lead over Martin this year -- Johnson has been awarded 50 additional points and Martin 45 for their respective victories.

Denny Hamlin sits eighth in the Chase standings, and has no shot at the title. His only complaint in the format is that he could have a car that has done well all season, yet still finish in the lower half of the Chase standings.

``It looks terrible when you finish 11th or 12th [in the Chase], when you've been the second-, third-, fourth-best car pretty much all year long,'' Hamlin said in late October. ``. . . That's the only problem I have with it. If they gave points for us running up front for most of the time, we'd maybe have a shot at this championship. But, unfortunately, they don't. It's only on finishing position. That's bitten us right at the very end.

``Obviously, the way [Johnson] is performing, we're not going to be leading the points in this position anywhere, even if we didn't have the two bad weeks that we had.''

Because of Johnson's wreck, the race Sunday at Homestead still has meaning.

If Martin -- who has finished fourth in the Series four times in his career -- wins Sunday's Ford 400 and leads the most laps, he will win his first series championship if Johnson finishes no better than 26th and leads no laps.

But long-term, the nature of NASCAR -- with its 36-week schedule, its 43-car field and powerful garages such as Hendrick Motorsports -- which has the top three drivers in the Chase -- doesn't always allow for the drama seen in the IndyCar Series. IndyCar came down to the final lap of the final race of the season, also at Homestead.

But that's just fine with drivers such as Miami resident Juan Pablo Montoya, who switched to NASCAR after spending several years in open-wheel racing.

``How many people are watching [IndyCar]?'' Montoya said dismissively, pointing to the circuit's low television ratings.

How does NASCAR, with its four-hour races, nine-month season and confusing points system rank? It's second, behind just the NFL, in terms of viewers.

``I think we've done enough tinkering for the time being,'' said Jim Hunter, NASCAR's vice president of corporate communications. ``I think we could turn the points system upside down and that team would still be leading the points. The Colorado-based firm, which owns Dish Network and a sister company, EchoStar Satellite Services, that provides wholesale TV and video transport and gear to telcos to support their IPTV services, reported third quarter earnings last week before heading to TelcoTV 2009. It announced new telco customers, as well as a partnership with Latens. The company also reportedly dropped hints that it is developing a TV app store for Dish Network.
EchoStar just announced that long-time leader Charlie Ergen, whose name ranks in the same company as media industry titans like John Malone, Brian Roberts and Rupert Murdoch, has handed off president and CEO responsibilities to veteran EchoStar executive Michael Dugan. Ergen will remain chairman of both Dish Network and the sister firm, EchoStar.
Ergen also will remain CEO of Dish, the satellite TV provider which around this time last year was perceived to have taken a major blow when AT&T chose DirecTV over Dish as its exclusive satellite TV resale partner. That decision left Dish out of the resale action of the nation's three largest telcos, though Dish continued to hold resale deals with several smaller telcos.
Last week, EchoStar's Dish showed more signs that it is leaving those perceptions behind, posting customer additions of 241,000, plus a profit for the third quarter. Those new customer additions were much higher than those posted by DirecTV for the same quarter (136,000).
Meanwhile, at TelcoTV 2009, EchoStar announced that its ViP-TV wholesale platform had been chosen by three more rural telcos: North Penn Telephone Company of Prattsburgh, N.Y.; CT Communications Network of Urbana, Ohio; and TCT West of Basin, Wyo.
"We move their headend costs into our platform, and make it an operational expense for them, rather than a capital expense," said Vern Smith, senior vice president of satellite services for EchoStar. "This gives them a lot more flexibility, and we think it makes IPTV a slam dunk for these guys. Otherwise, they spend all this money to buy stuff and then have nightmares about what works and what doesn't work."
Smith added that EchoStar has seen greater success for its ViP offering since creating an equipment exchange program for telcos that had been customers of the similar SES Americom satellite-based wholesale offering called IP-Prime. SES Americom announced its exit from the market last fall, which re-stocked the market pond with more small carrier customers for competitors like EchoStar who could provide jilted IP-Prime customers with a smooth exit path.
"What happened with IP-Prime was actually a good thing for the industry because it made companies look at their options, and if anything, it scared them and convinced them that they needed to get going on figuring out how to provide TV services and who they should partner with to do that," Smith said.
As for the partnership with Latens, a middleware and conditional access system vendor, the move was led by EchoStar's European unit, and the benefits in increased market reach are mutual.
Jeff Hale, national accounts manager for EchoStar, said the partnership helps EchoStar adapt its set-top box offerings to the different challenges of a European IPTV market that is far more mature than the U.S. market. EchoStar Europe has been targeting IPTV providers in Europe for only a short time, since announcing an initial product foray last spring at the IPTV World Forum event.
Hale said that EchoStar's HDX-600 STB, a hybrid DVR unit, is being integrated with Latens' card-less conditional access system and ECO middleware to support authorization-based TV and video-on-demand services. "Eventually, we hope to bring this box to the U.S. as a home receiver," he said. EchoStar and Latens showed off the integrated approach at TelcoTV 2009.
Latens, for its part, gains an important U.S. partner in EchoStar, said Phil Cardy, director of product marketing at Latens, which is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and already has a U.S. office in Atlanta. "EchoStar has been very keen about getting into Europe, and we can leverage them as we get more into North American markets," Cardy said. He added that the integration with the HDX-600 addresses the market evolution of telco and cable TV companies chasing the same goal-hybrid content strategies. The hybridization trend heightens the need for effective conditional access.
The concept of the app store for EchoStar's Dish TV business, first reported by Light Reading's Cable Digital News last week, is intriguing. Telcos and other service providers have debated the benefits of setting up application storefronts to support multiple services since Apple's iTunes and iPhone app store efforts met with such huge success. To some degree, major wireless carriers have already pursued the concept, but the burgeoning TV app environment would seem to offer another opportunity to build on that concept. What is now known as STELA, for the “Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act,” passed the committee in a voice vote on a package of bills that included bones for low-power FM radio stations, sharks, the Chesapeake Bay and public transportation.

STELA extends for five years the right for satellite TV providers to carry out-of-market TV signals to household that can’t receive stations in their own markets. Current law, known as SHVERA, expires at the end of this year. This new legislation also replaces language referring to analog signals with references to digital transmissions, and directs the FCC to develop a correlative reception test. It also directs the commission to determine whether the licensing scheme it extends should be scuttled in favor of negotiations between stations and DBS providers.

Several legislators have pushed DBS operators to carry local stations in all 210 TV markets. DirecTV does so in 152 markets; Dish Network, in 182--both as of Oct. 8. They say the remaining markets are too cost-prohibitive to serve. The Commerce version of the bill doesn’t require or provide incentives for local-into-local in all 210 markets, but Committee Chairman John D. Rockefeller (D.-WV) said the issue would be a priority when the legislation is merged with versions from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - U.S. Senator John Kerry's elder daughter, Alexandra, who made a red-carpet splash at the Cannes film festival five years ago in a see-through dress, was arrested in Hollywood on Thursday on suspicion of drunken driving.

The 36-year-old aspiring filmmaker was stopped by police, jailed briefly on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence and released on $5,000 bail, Los Angeles police said.

A statement issued on behalf of the Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, said Kerry's daughter was pulled over for an expired automobile registration "and was released after the results of a breathalyzer test at the police station were under the legal limit."

"Senator Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter," the statement said.

Celebrity news website TMZ.com reported that Kerry was stopped for a traffic violation and placed under arrest after failing a field sobriety test. According to TMZ, she refused to take a preliminary alcohol screening test at the scene, before a formal blood-alcohol test conducted later at the police station showed her to be just under the legal limit.

Police can still arrest a person on suspicion of drunken driving if officers believe the motorist is impaired.

"It depends on the expertise and opinions of the officers at the time," said police spokesman Gus Villanueva..

The case was later turned over to prosecutors who will decide whether to formally charge Kerry or dismiss the matter. A spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said the case was under review.

Kerry raised eyebrows during her father's unsuccessful White House campaign with an appearance in a see-through gown at the Cannes film festival, where her short film, "The Last Full Measure," premiered that year.

Not soon enough! She could have left earlier and things would have been fine.


Oprah Winfrey will announce Friday that she's giving up her popular daytime show when her contract ends in Sept. 2011.

"We have the greatest respect for Oprah and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors, we do know anything she turns her hand to will be a great success," said a spokesman for the CBS Television Studios, which distributes her show, which airs on ABC in New York.

"We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well."

Winfrey's team Thursday notified stations that carry the show, along with other companies connected to Harpo Productions that the decision was made. Locally, WABC/Ch. 7 broke the news on air and on its Web site.

"Tomorrow, Oprah will announce live on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' that she has decided to end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history,'" Harpo president Tim Bennett said in the letter, which told stations to share the news.

"The sun will set on the 'Oprah' show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011."

Winfrey had previously said she would tell the world whether she would stick beyond the 2011 end date of her contract before the end of the year.

She is closing out one of the most successful runs of a daytime talk show in television history. Over the course of her run, she's beaten every competitor, and proven she can move people to vote, buy books, clothes, and even face cream.

While her daily ratings are not as big as they used to be - no show's are - its unlikely another daytime talk show will be able to replace the drawing power of "Oprah" anytime soon.

The announcement comes after a series of high profile interviews aired, including Tuesday's sitdown with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. That appearance generated Winfrey's biggest audience since 2007.

Winfrey and Discovery Networks have a partnership to launch the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which she will program. It had been scheduled for 2009, and the latest buzz has it going live in 2011.

Mastadons and other megafauna left traces of dung in ancient lake beds

Mammoth dung has proved to be a source of prehistoric information, helping scientists unravel the mystery of what caused the great mammals to die out.

An examination of a fungus that is found in the ancient dung and preserved in lake sediments has helped build a picture of what happened to the beasts.

The study sheds light on the ecological consequences of the extinction and the role that humans may have played in it.

Researchers describe this development in the journal Science.

The study was led by Dr Jacquelyn Gill from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in the US.

She and her colleagues studied the Sporormiella fungal spores contained in the sediment deep within the bed of Appleman Lake in Indiana.

Many very large mammals including mammoths, mastodons, ground sloths and giant kangaroos inhabited forests in this area of North America about 20,000 years ago.

Sporormiella produces spores in the dung of large herbivores. These are then preserved in the layers of mud and can provide an index of the number of these animals, or megafauna, that roamed the environment at a particular time.

The researchers took sediment cores from the bed of Appleman lake in Indiana

"Sediment cores are much like ice cores, except with lake mud," explained Dr Gill. "The spores [and other materials] settle out into the lake mud and get buried over time."

She and her team simply counted the pollen, charcoal and Sporormiella in these layers of mud, tracking the timescale of ancient environmental changes.

Their results showed a slow decline in megafauna that began about 15,000 years ago and appeared to last for about 1,000 years.

This discovery rules out one idea that the extinction might have been caused by an extraterrestrial object striking Earth 13,000 years ago.

The scientists also spotted signals of major environmental changes around the time of the extinction.

"This study is exciting because we're getting some solid data about the ecological consequences of the removal of these animals," said Dr Gill.

"After their decline we see an increase in the more warm-adapted deciduous trees, and an increase in charcoal [which means there was] an increase in the number of forest fires.

"So we can see that the forest is reassembling following the extinction."

The study also shows that the decline began about 1,000 years before the Clovis period - when the archaeological record shows that humans were making the tools specifically to hunt large animals.

Prior to this discovery, some scientists believed that Clovis people hunted the animals to extinction.

But Professor Christopher Johnson from James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, said that the study still supports the hypothesis that humans were primarily responsible for the mammals' decline.

Professor Johnson was not involved in the study but wrote an accompanying article in the same issue of Science, outlining its significance.

He wrote: "If people were responsible... they must have been pre-Clovis settlers.

"The existence of such people has been controversial, but archaeological evidence is slowly coming to light."

Dr Gill commented: "We can't resolve the climate versus humans debate but we have eliminated one of the main hypotheses for each camp."

She added that there were "modern conservation implications" to the study.

"We know the large herbivores on the landscape today are some of the most threatended," she said.

"And we're starting to learn that they're ecological keystones. They're not just charismatic, they might also be ecologically significant."

Uga VII, the white English bulldog mascot for the University of Georgia's football team for almost two seasons, died Thursday of heart-related causes, the dog's owner said.

The 56-pound dog, nicknamed "Loran's Best," was known as a laid-back mascot who seemed oblivious to crowd noise during boisterous games and would sit patiently as excited fans snapped photos of him. He often roamed the sidelines in a shirt with a 'G' stitched on it, sometimes resting on a bag of ice to cool off in his customized dog house.

The school said there would be a no mascot at Saturday's game in Athens against Southeastern Conference rival Kentucky, but that a wreath will be laid on his doghouse on the field's sidelines. Sonny Seiler, the dog's owner, said he likely wouldn't name a replacement until next year.

"We are all in a state of shock," Seiler said in a news release issued by the university. "We had no warning whatsoever."

The 4-year-old dog made his debut as the mascot in August 2008 after his father, Uga VI, died of congestive heart failure. He had big paws to fill - Uga VI was the school's winningest mascot, racking up a 87-27 record, seven wins in nine bowl appearances and a pair of Southeastern Conference championships.

But Seiler said the dog distinguished himself in his own way.

"He was 10-3 last year which is not bad for a freshman," said Seiler. "Uga VII was not as active or mischievous as his father but more distinguished. He realized his role when he put his shirt on. He was well-behaved and always appreciated the significance of his role."

The dog was the latest in a line of mascots that have been featured on the covers of Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek and in several movies. He also was a compelling symbol for football fans across the nation, said Damon Evans, the school's athletic director.

"Just as his ancestors, he had captured the hearts of college football fans everywhere as the country's No. 1 mascot," Evans said. "He had been truly embraced by all those who follow the Georgia Bulldogs across the country. Playstation Insider's got a tipster (one that's reportedly "very close" to the company) telling them that Sony is in heavy talks with Mozilla to port Firefox to the PS3. The tipster didn't know if any actual deal had been struck, but it's not terribly surprising considering the PS3's current built-in browser is less than awesome. That said, Firefox has actually crashed twice on us in the last 15 minutes, and no, we're not making that up.Firefox headed to the PS3? There's obviously something seriously wrong with me, since the idea of a feature-stripped OS that over-relies on a web browser at the expense of more powerful single-purpose apps has delightful shivers running up my spine. In fact, in a fleeting moment of ill-advised adulation, I was considering buying a netbook with solid state storage so that I'd be all prepped to hack this pre-release version of Chrome OS onto it and web-app to my heart's content. The real issue is that at the end of the day I know I'm always (well, for the next few years at least) going to be too reliant on "heavyweight" desktop applications like audio, video and image editors to really cut the cord and stuff my whole life into the cloud. But the chimes of freedom flashing in Chrome OS are too great to ignore, and I think there's plenty going on here that could be very beneficial to a "real" desktop OS.Continue reading Editorial: Chrome OS is what I want, but not what I need

Sony had a big management meeting in Japan today, where the tech giant announced some extremely vague plans for what's initially being called the Sony Online Service -- a new "iTunes-like" service built on the PlayStation Network that will sell books, music, and movies. That's really all we know for now -- Sony execs didn't set a launch date or provide any specifics -- but the move's been rumored for a while and makes total sense, considering Sony's huge investment in running PSN and vast array of products it could tie into the service, like the Reader e-book line, the PSP, and the various Network Walkmans. Dell sure is adding multitouch to quite a few products these days, but it isn't exactly doing it with much fanfare on every occasion. The latest to slip into availability is an updated version of the company's generously-sized Studio 17 laptop, which is now available with a 1,600 x 900 display that boasts full multitouch and arm-tiring abilities. Otherwise, you can expect to get the usual wide range of configuration options, including your choice of Pentium Dual Core or Core 2 Duo processors, a maximum 8GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, integrated Intel or discrete ATI graphics, and an optional Blu-ray drive, among other standard fare. Some of those options will obviously bump the price up considerably, but things start at just $899 -- look for it to start shipping on December 4th.

You may bang on the legacy airlines, but American Airlines has a good thing going here with Gogo. The outfit has just completed installation of in-flight WiFi on 150 of its MD-80 aircraft, and in order to give you a better idea of how to prepare, it's now launching an online widget that'll let you know if your bird will enable web surfing when you get on. The tool is completely web-based, so any PC or smartphone can access it; the only real knock is that it only informs you of a "yes" or "no" 24 hours prior to departure, so it's still impossible to book a flight 3 months out and know for certain if you'll be able to hop online. This is definitely something that should be adopted by the other airlines (pronto!), but we can't help but dream of the day when something like this is unnecessary due to in-flight internet becoming completely ubiquitous. LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues spends much of its time focused on the brickification of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but it also gives players a taste of Indy's original adventures. Better still, it gives Indiana Jones fans a chance to build their own LEGO levels this time around.

Can a new, coop-friendly split-screen system and the ability to design your own levels make up for the fact that the game reanimates Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Lets see.

Loved
Two Players, Two Screens: One of my big qualms with previous LEGO games was that when you started playing coop&mdash;and that's always been the best way to play&mdash;the screen became a leash. If one player went too far in a direction it started pulling the other player around with them, sometimes to their death. This time around, once you hit the limits of the screen it splits, allowing the two players to go their separate ways. The way the screen splits also shows which direction the other player is in. It's a neat design concept that typically works quite well.

Build Mode: While LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues spends most of its time focused on just about everybody's least favorite Indy film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it also introduces the ability to design and play through your own LEGO levels to the franchise. The system is fairly straight forward: You select and throw down LEGO bricks you've unlocked through gameplay to create sets based on what comes with the game. Not only does that include AI-programmable enemies and creatures, but traps that you can tie to different bricks. It's a robust little system tied to a fun aesthetic. My only disappointment is that you apparently can't share your creations with friends online. A pretty big bummer.

Another Take: While more than a third of the game is devoted to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the game also includes abbreviated takes on the first three movies. Interestingly, instead of just porting over chunks of these LEGO adaptations from The Original Adventures the game seems to completely reinvent them. While Indy purists may lose sleep over these in-a-nutshell adaptations of the first three films, they're clever, punchy and fun in a way that makes playing the story a second time worthwhile.

Wide Open Spaces: Every LEGO game has a sort of jumping off point, a hub from which gamers embark on the multiple stores and adventures of the particular game. In the original LEGO Indy game it was a university, this time it's the storage warehouse from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Sort of. The top menu has you select one of the eight containers (some start boxed up and have to be unlocked) to decide where your adventure begins. There are crates for the first three movies and then three crates for Crystal Skull and finally a crate each for the build mode and another for "Super Bonus" levels, which are essentially time trials. But when you jump into a movie, the game drops you into a fairly expansive area that than has to be explored to find the storyline. While you wander around these large set pieces you also discover hidden items, challenges and fun little things to do. It's a neat addition to the LEGO gaming experience.

Vehicles: Always a pleasure in LEGO games, this time around the world gives you access to cars, motorcycles, bikes, tree-cutters, horses, camels, rickshaws and, my favorite, planes. There's nothing like flying over a LEGO land and jumping out to parachute to your favorite play area.

Completest: As with all previous LEGO games, LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues comes with quite a few reasons to play, replay and replay the game again. There are special LEGO pieces to collect, time trials to unlock, Easter eggs to discover. And it's all a lot of fun to do.

Funny Story: Played in tandem with my 8-year-old, the game had Tristan in stitches. And it wasn't just him. Sure, I'd still like to see a LEGO heart ripped from a mini-fig's chest, but the alternative to all of that Indy violence can be quite funny at times.

Hated
Not So Invisible Walls: The worlds of LEGO Indiana Jones 2 are much, much bigger, but they're not without their limits and unfortunately those limits aren't disguised very well. Go too far and your mini-fig will just float back to the map.

The Camera Controls... Still: How can Traveller's Tales, who have single-handedly reinvigorated, reinvented the LEGO gaming franchise, still not have the in-game camera worked out? I'm sick of dying simply because the perspective is throwing me off. Fix this already.

What Next: I love the huge explorable, hidden area-filled, worlds of LEGO, but I hate having to wander around in them for half an hour trying to figure out which path, which cave, which ladder will take me to the next step in the story. A map or maybe a better indicator would be much appreciated.

I wasn't really looking forward to LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. Of all of the LEGO games the first Indiana Jones was my least favorite, though I still quite liked it. And this time around, I wasn't really anticipating playing through my least favorite movie in the series. But the game delivers on so many levels, adding a much needed split screen and a fantastic build mode, that I've been delighted with the experience.

If you didn't pick up the first LEGO Indiana Jones game, I think it might even be worth skipping and instead going straight to this one.

LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues was developed by Traveller's Tales and published by LucasArts for the DS, PC, Playstation 3, Playstation Portable, Wii and Xbox 360 on Nov. 17. Retails for $49.99 USD. A copy of the game was given to us by the publisher for reviewing purposes. Played through all sets and campaigns both alone and with my son on Xbox 360. Built several levels alone and with my son.

Boldly go where only closed beta testers have gone before this January, when Cryptic launches the open beta test for Star Trek Online on stardate 63497.

For those of you not up to par on your Star Trek calendar, that's actually January 12th, 2010. The open beta will run through January 26th, giving players two weeks to play the game prior to the February launch. Open beta keys will be given out on a first come, first serve basis, with players urged to watch the game's official website at http://www.startrekonline.com to keep abreast of the situation.

"We are excited to announce the dates for the open beta phase as this is one of the final steps in launching Star Trek Online to the public," said Craig Zinkievich, Executive Producer on Star Trek Online. "We are looking forward to the launch of our first-of-a-kind MMORPG with anticipation and excitement and we expect Star Trek Online to explode onto the scene, giving fans and gamers a Star Trek experience like no other."

Star Trek would be a much bigger hit with the fans if video game website writers didn't have to covert dates to stardates of their own accord. Just sayin'.

Setting up your Captain with a motor


I did this how to for a member elsewhere who was having problems. I was not running the motor on my Captain at the time I did this so if there is corrections please fell free to modify this.


This is how I did my motor setup with my Captain 8k,
remember to start at 0 position on your motor
Go to dish settings select your bird closest to your longitude mine is 82 highlight
Now go over to diseqc switch press OK and choose motor exit once
set up your switch if you have any(my lnb gets both linear and circular birds so I have a 22khz switch circ. birds I enable my 22khz tone & lin. birds I disable 22khz tone)
I always enable my network search and set my search type to all--I have found that my Captain seems to miss channels if I dont set these two settings this way.

Now hit the blue button to take you to motor scan
Go down to motor type & press OK until you see USALS
You will need to know your longitude and latitude for this next step, I used dishpointer.c*m to find out my coordinates.
Press OK on longitude enter your numbers--you may have to change from east to west depending were you live to do this sellect longitude and press volume up button on the remote exit and it should change for you from east to west
Now that you have your coordinates entered go over to the right side of the screen and sellect go to stored position press OK and your motor should go to your selected bird
When it stops and if your signals are all good do a auto scan when your scan is done exit and save if asked
Now go through all the birds you can pick up and do the same procedure
Once all your birds are scanned in you just should just have to hit your sat button choose a bird and your motor will go to that bird.
